Business Leadership South Africa, formerly known as the South Africa Foundation, is an independent association of the Chief Executive Officers and Chairmen representing the diversity of South African big business leadership, as well as the major multinational investors in South Africa. It is the forum for South Africa’s business leaders to exchange ideas on matters of current interest to the large companies of South Africa.

Business Leadership aims to provide leadership on economic and selected broader societal issues of national importance. It is an influencing/catalytic body which commissions research, facilitates projects and co-operates, as appropriate, with the broader business community and with government. Business Leadership South Africa does not aim to be an implementing agency.

As a body of engaged and committed South African leaders, together with key foreign investors, it endeavours to actively support the effective pursuit of key national goals. Specifically, Business Leadership endorses the objectives of higher growth, greater employment, inclusivity and the reduction of poverty. It believes that these can best be achieved in a democratic society where a business and market friendly environment is nurtured.

A core mission of Business Leadership South Africa is to facilitate an effective business dialogue with government. This, as with other activities requires working closely with Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), the mandated national representative body of business, and with other business bodies. Business Leadership is concerned with issues of collective interest to business, the economy and the society as a whole. It will not deal with individual or sectoral interests of members as these are best promoted by existing sectoral bodies or the individual companies concerned.
