
Director: Business Leadership South Africa Shibishi Maruatona is a director at Business Leadership South Africa. Prior to that, Shibe - as he is called - was employed as Senior Legal Counsel in the office of the general counsel at Absa Bank Limited, where he was the primary legal resource on the Absa black economic empowerment deal with Batho Bonke. He was previously employed at Absa Corporate and Merchant Bank (now Absa Capital) within the International Financial Institution's (IFI) business unit as Regional Head: Southern, East and Central Africa. He has also held the position of Legal Counsel within the same bank where he was in charge - from a legal viewpoint - of the Continuous Linked Settlement Bank's (CLS) admission of ABSA as settlement member thus the South African Rand's designation as settlement currency. Before joining ABSA, he was employed as Commercial Legal Advisor at Gensec Bank, which he joined after a similar role at Worldwide Africa Investment Holdings (WAIH). As a student, Shibe was offered a scholarship to read for law at Wits University by law firm Biccari Bollo Mariano (now BBM Incorporated). He remains a close associate of the firm. Shibe is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, a board member of the National Business Initiative (NBI), and Vice Chair of the Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) Trade Committee.
